You can download SoftWriting and have a fully functional product for an evaluation period of 14 days. At the end of this period you will need to register in order to continue working.

SoftWriting can recognize machine print and non-connected handwritten characters English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, French, Italian, and Dutch. SoftWriting is available from this website via download only.

SoftWriting version 4.5 is now available in two versions:

  • Standard – the full functionality of SoftWriting at a reduced price, and

  • Professional – with upgraded OCR engine for demanding applications.


    • We encourage you evaluate SoftWriting carefully and decide which version, if any, is right for you. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept returns, or exchange versions after you purchase. SoftWriting is compatible with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista, and requires a TWAIN compliant scanner or one of the supported pads and a connection to the Internet (see data sheet for complete details).
